A pope who belongs to the world

Hammer Sickle CrucifixThe latest scandal surrounding Pope Francis concerns the gifts he received from Bolivian President Evo Morales; a sacrilegious representation of the Crucifix fashioned out of a hammer and sickle and a medallion bearing the same communist symbol.

Now, there is considerable debate taking place in the Catholic blogosphere about whether or not Pope Francis said, upon receiving the bastardized Crucifix, “No esta bien” (This is not good). 

From a review of the video, it’s not clear to me either way, but what should be clear to all concerned is that there is a major problem with this pontificate.

Even if Pope Francis did say “No esta bien,” two entirely unacceptable and avoidable things took place:

Number one, Morales successfully executed a photo-op of himself standing next to a smiling Roman Pontiff, who happens to be holding in his hands an article that combines two mutually exclusive things – one pure evil, one the greatest gift mankind has received; namely, Communism and the Sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

I’d say that Morales hit himself a home run.

Secondly, a semi-private muttering of “No esta bien“ isn’t even close to good enough.

If, in fact, it actually was said, the manner in which it was spoken only confirms what we’ve long since known about this pope; he simply doesn’t take his role as guardian of the Faith and Supreme Teacher seriously. 

One wonders how Popes Pius X, Benedict XV, Pius XI, and Pius XII would have reacted to such an affront.   

On the one hand, we might say that a firm and unmistakable rebuke would have taken place, followed by the Holy Father likely dropping to his knees in reparation for this terrible offense against Christ.

On the other, it’s more realistic to believe that such a travesty would have never taken place.

There is no way that such “gifts” would have ever made their way into the same room as the Holy Father in those days; his entourage of assistants and security personal would have immediately eliminated that possibility, if for no other reason than knowing full well that their own heads would likely roll if they allowed such a thing.

Which brings me to another aspect of this scandal; namely, the kinds of men with whom Pope Francis chooses to surround himself.

Every pope surrounds himself with men who think as he thinks, or at the very least learn to conform their thinking to his own in order to serve him.

There can be no doubt whatsoever that, especially given that we now live in an age of terrorism, that any number of persons in the papal entourage had screened and approved of these magnificently offensive “gifts” well before they were given.

They even allowed Morales to drape Communist symbols around the Holy Father’s neck; like it is acceptable to use the pope as if he is little more than a mannequin!

In the best case scenario, the pope’s staff failed him, and then he in turn failed the world.

That said, it’s not as if his staff had no reason to believe that their boss would be open to posing for a politically charged photo-op.

  2. One of the problems with this Pope (there are so many it would be impossible to count) is that he is so loved by the world that no one fears him! He is a “live and let live” kind of a guy which allows anyone to do or say anything without fear of reprisal (except being Traditional, of course!). Is the US Supreme Court “shaking in their shoes” because Bergoglio is scheduled to visit after their horrendous decision which is an attack on traditional Marriage and the family? I don’t think so! Are our so-called “Catholic” politicians worried that they may be reprimanded by the Vicar of Christ for their anti-Catholic positions? Again, I don’t think so! We are like orphans with this man as the Visible Head of the Church. Let us cling to Christ the King!

Im not looking to “hijack” this thread….but when I see this craziness, I, as a sede, have no problem with it….I am not “stunned and appalled” and see it for what it is: the act of a tool of satan doing his best to destroy our Church. Like any other apostate, mr. bergoglio defames the Catholic Church at every opportunity. It upsets me of course but it is to be expected. Satan is all about destroying the Church…..actual popes could never take part in anything like this. We can defame the man and his words until the cows come home….as long as we acknowledge this man as “pope” we lend credence to his position as “Christ’s vicar on earth” which he is surely not, and HELP lead ignorant souls astray.

  10. Evo Morales is an open, flagrant enemy of Christ’s Church.
    Upon his coming to office, one of the first things he did was to ditch the crucifix and bible and other Catholic ceremonies from government, and change them to pagan ones. Also, he tried to ban catholic catechism classes from schools run by the Catholic Church (only 15%).
    And he’s a big fan of Francis too.

No one who is honest and of normal intelligence could deny that he is a pertinacious heretic and therefore certainly not the pope in the supernatural realm, whatever about the canonical situation. However. The longer he is allowed to remain in the external office of the pope, the more damage he does to the Church, and to countless souls.

    Wow! The pope can have his concubines and bastard children running all over the Vatican and he’s still the pope. But if during a political meeting with another leader, he has a piece of blasphemous art placed in his hands and he doesn’t react instantly the way he should, that’s grounds for you to declare him not the pope? Yes, I believe Pope Francis will go down, barring a miraculous conversion/awakening, in the annals as one of the most reckless in safeguarding the Faith, but surely you can do better than this incident as a reason to declare the Chair of Peter vacant.

  22. I have no idea who the pope is. It could be Benedict, Francis, or nobody. I just don’t get it. I’d rather have a pope with a womanizing problem and lots of children hopped up on sugar running and screaming through the halls and all over the place than this situation we’re stuck with today. At least we’d know the womanizer was still “manly” in a sense and would wipe the floor with Morales and all the jokers that let the guy through with his “gift” after a stunt like that! This guy….ugh, I just don’t know what-the-hell-is-what these days.

    The places that first reported the ‘that’s not right’ are retracting. He may have said, “I didn’t know that” (“No sabía eso”) – the indisputable fact is, the man who has no jurisdicition in the Catholic church, smilingly accepted the blasphemy before everyone. I reckon the greater scandal is that people still think the man who accepted the blasphemy has any jurisdiciton from Christ. That is becoming more of a scandal than the continued public demonic apostasy of Bergoglio.

May I suggest you read John Salza on the SV issue before you join their ranks which is understandable given the ongoing fiasco in the Chair of Peter. It’s worth everyone’s time. As tempted and sympathetic one might be to the SV, IMO it is not advisable to do so. Salza explains why not far better than anyone I have read (a lot by the way) on the subject.

  44. PS. Agree with some of the comments above – VII and the Novus Ordo are simply personified in Bergoglio – its ripe fruit. He belongs to a system that broke with Christ fifty years ago. A system that occupied the episcopal sees, and exiled Christ and His true Apostolic successors from the ‘ancient places’. For those who have been given the grace to know that Vatican II/Novus Ordo is the work of saboteurs, to continue to look for the ‘visible’ One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church in the VII/Novus Ordo counterfeit is as intellectually honest as looking for her in the Church of England, simply because the sees of the Anglican Bishops were once Catholic. By the Grace of God, the Apostolic gift and mission has been preserved in those brave and terribly maligned sedevacantist priests and bishops and in the SSPX clergy as well. That the SSPX are choosing to confirm the alien in his alien errors by collaborating with him as if he were ‘brethren’ rather than call him the enemy of Christ that he is, is to bless all his wickedness. It puts countless souls in danger and acts towards those souls, including Bergoglio, with an utter lack of charity.

    I cross my heart and hope to die – I really did try to read Salza’s article.
    Sadly by the middle of page 3, I just could not continue. The spirit was willing, but the flesh couldn’t take anymore. By that stage I had seen so many false statements, I could no more. How I wish we could sit down with a beer and quietly discuss Salza’s article together. If I just refuted those 2 1/2 pages with my one finger typing, it would take me all night and we would be having a full scale debate on sedevacantism again. I certainly would not recommend this article to anybody who truly wants to find out about sedevacantism.

    I reckon Wojtyla still takes that prize for worst spiritual fornicator. If Bergoglio had no awareness of the Catholic faith he would not attack it so vigorously and ‘colourfully’. Likewise, he had is shown to be a spiritual fornicator by the fact that he was raised in the Faith (free from any of the adulterations of VII and the Novus Ordo yet to come) – a Faith which he now spends his days – with the help of the Novus Ordo Cardinals, Bishops et al, the jet, the ‘pope-mobile’, the hotel, the cassock and the Square – ‘serenely’ attacking. Does this man have the approval of Christ the King to define faith and morals before the Church and the world?     This Pope — and the entire post-conciliar Church — seeped with the heresy of modernism and progressivism, forget that although Christians are ‘in the world’ they are not ‘of the world.’
    To paraphrase the wise words of a saint: when battling sins or the occasions of sin it is often more courageous to flee than to do straightforward battle. But these troglodyte categories of ‘sin’ or the ‘occasions of sin’ no longer exist in the modern church.

    The world loves its own: the post-conciliar church has all the marks of being ‘of the world’.

For myself, despite Great anger and disgust over all these wicked insults to Our Lord, I humbly try to remind myself it is not just the sins of our clergy that bring about these horrible acts, but My sins too. Rather than always blaming the clergy, I try to remember that any past indifference or carelessness on my part has brought about these wicked times. It is not good enough to be filled with righteous anger but to always remember holy lay people can and will make all the difference. Prayers and penance from true Catholics are what will save us, in mercy through the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

    A hearty Amen. This has been the consistent message of the approved apparitions of Our Blessed Mother over many centuries, including Quito, Ecuador. And “war is a punishment for sin” she said at Fatima. The Faithful know that Spiritual warfare is every bit as painful and has far more permanent effects on its casualties in eternity.

    We’ve found it helpful to remind ourselves that whatever temporal sufferings God allows into our lives can be accepted and offered to help atone for our own past sins; (“Take up Thy cross and Follow Me”) while keeping that idea balance with what St. Paul said –(paraphrasing) that whatever is NOT applicable to our own failings, can be offered for the sake of other souls who can use our help. This is the work of the Church. We grow in genuine love and contribute to Our Lords’ work of redemption. Great reasons never to be discouraged, even when our sufferings seem like more than we can bear.. (Although we have been known to joke about this topic over the last 50 years of trials and losses, -that if God’s has only one imperfection it is how much he overestimates what we can take at times.)

  71. My point was if he’s only NOW considering sede, he must have thought previous popes were legitimate. That means Benedict would have been legitimate for him…and Benedict is still around. I, for one, was not sede previously, consistent with the position of the SSPX, which I have come to believe that through the grace of God and his promise to the Church, is a final repository of the faith. What’s worse is the absence of any Catholic teaching on these important matters. Neither the youth nor the elderly will save the culture he is so concerned about in that video, without that “wisdom” having come from God through His Church and from the Graces it brings to save souls. What totally missed opportunities! He remains focused on this earth right to the end, where they ask him how to motivate the youth regarding the “fatherland”. He says to give them one “concrete idea” to hold onto – like the explorers had, and then let them grow. Not a word about our Heavenly Father or where our true homeland is, and how understanding our being and destiny is what instills love in us for everything around us that God gave us at birth.
