A couple of weeks ago, I commented upon the presentation that was given by Fr. Linus Clovis at the Roman Life Forum.
Reading the text of his talk, something he said hit me right between the eyes:
“Shamefacedness, a kind of embarrassment, is that fear that deters one from committing a disgraceful act. The parable of the steward who was afraid to beg illustrates that fear.”
The parable to which Fr. Clovis referred tells us:
“And the steward said within himself: What shall I do, because my lord taketh away from me the stewardship? To dig I am not able; to beg I am ashamed.” (Luke 16:3)
Thankfully, I am healthy enough to “dig” if necessary. That said, I do not believe that the Lord has taken away the stewardship.
I am sincerely convinced – perhaps now more than ever as the crisis in the Church tangibly draws closer to a head – that He desires for akaCatholic (me, our contributors, and each of you) to continue proclaiming the truth as best we’re able.
So why did Fr. Clovis’ words strike me?
Afraid and ashamed to beg…
While I didn’t know until recently that it’s called “shamefacedness,” I have known for some time now that my aversion to asking for help is not of God and must be overcome if His work is to be done here.
Even so, I have been dragging my feet to the point where the necessity of plainly asking for your financial support is well and truly critical.
Right or wrong, it’s just not me to wax dramatic. (God forbid it ever should be!)
So, at this I will simply ask for your prayers for me and my family and leave this plea on behalf of akaCatholic in the hands of Our Lord and Our Lady.
Louie, you are a true champion of the one, holy, apostolic , Church, outside of which . no one can be save. You deserve the support of your faithful readers and you have mine. On the first of every month I’ll be donating $50 to you , that’s my commitment. I encourage all your readers to donate monthly some amount so that you can continue defending the Church that we all love with your keen intellect and insights.
God bless you!
“A Simple Beggar” commented on Louie’s 6/2 article, “Defending the Society of St. Pius X”: “I will likely send Louie a donation, not because I stand where he may be at the present moment, but because I truly feel that he IS of good will, and will follow whatever he determines to be actual Truth in the matter, no matter the cost to himself.”
You’ve summarized so well why many of us contribute to Louie, but we need more! VCR said, above, that he’ll be donating $50/month. I’ve been donating $30/month. If hundreds of us would commit to a monthly donation, large or small, Louie would have a somewhat predictable monthly income, as we all desire. It would be great if he never again has to ask us for our financial support. It’s easy through PayPal. Trust me — you won’t even miss it, but you’ll be glad that you are helping to support him when he risks his livelihood, again and again, by speaking Truth.
I definitely want to contribute to this extremely important effort. I just used paypal , but I wonder if there’s a p.o. box for future payments so Louis can have the benefit of the whole amount, instead of giving a cut to paypal each time.
