Vatican II Revisited: Lumen Gentium – Part Three

Louie, September 18, 2025September 18, 2025

In this episode of Vatican II Revisited, Kevin Davis and I wrap up our discussion on Lumen Gentium, the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church.

Chief among the topics covered is the matter of collegiality, the post-conciliar name given to the Council’s attempts to paint the Supreme Authority over the Universal Church as that which is held, not only by the Sovereign Pontiff individually, but also by the College of Bishops dispersed throughout the world collectively.

The timeliness of this discussion should be obvious to all as the new CEO of the conciliar church (widely known as Leo XIV) made it a point to insist from the loggia on the day of his election, We want a synodal church!

As viewers will discover, the very notion of the Synod of Bishops, established as a permanent structure within the conciliar curia by Paul VI in 1964, is a direct fruit of the Councils treatment of collegiality. On several points along the way, the Council contradicts that which had been taught by the sacred Magisterium leading up to that time. This, of course, is the price that must be paid when attempting to fashion a church that is structured differently than the Church that Our Lord established.

As always, please share this video with any and all who may benefit (if you find it worthwhile). Your comments are most welcome, whether positive or negative. Please feel free to add them in the comment section on the YouTube channel.

Also, please consider lending your support to the Catholic Family Podcast channel, which (as I’m sure you’ve noticed) contains many other excellent offerings.
