Vatican II Revisited: Dignitatis Humanae – Part 1

Louie, November 25, 2025November 25, 2025

In this episode of Vatican II Revisited, Kevin Davis and I examine what is perhaps the most controversial of the sixteen Council documents, the Declaration on Religious Freedom.

Why is this declaration so widely disparaged by so many Catholics, from the moderately “conservative” to the staunchest of so-called “traditionalists”?

For two reasons: First, because it so explicitly proposes that which the authoritative papal magisterium of the past several hundred years plainly and repeatedly condemned. Secondly, and perhaps more shocking, is that its teaching offends against some of the most basic tenets of Catholic moral theology concerning the matter of rights, duties, and human dignity itself.

In Part One of our examination of Dignitatis Humanae, we will begin with a rudimentary and crucially important overview of the latter and their relationship with the Eternal Law, the Natural Law, and the Divine Law. From that foundation, viewers will come to see clearly why this text simply cannot be a product of the Holy Catholic Church.

As always, your comments are most welcome. Please share the link with any who may stand to benefit.
