A full century has passed since Pope Pius XI instituted the Feast of Christ the King with the Encyclical, Quas Primas. His reason for doing so was both supremely noble and eminently simple: So that the Kingship of our Savior would be recognized and understood as widely as possible. (cf Quas Primas 21)
Nearly forty years later to the day, Paul VI formally closed the Second Vatican Council, an event that would lead the generations to follow to believe the pernicious lie that “Christ the King” is merely an empty title, one that, at best, refers exclusively to Our Lord’s dominion over matters purely spiritual and things properly religious.
In this episode of the akaCatholic podcast, we’ll consider the largely forgotten doctrine of the Holy Catholic Church on the Social Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ, its rock-solid basis in Sacred Scripture, and the teaching that was set forth 100 years ago by Pope Pius XI in Quas Primas.
